**scrap-talk, non-scrappers might get bored reading this :D **

Finally, organization of my scrap materials is done. Oh well, I don’t have much stuff to begin with. Most of my materials are freebies, few were purchased during sale periods. National Scrapbooking Day is fast approaching and I’m still not sure if I can buy new scrap materials :( . Sigh…

Right now, I’m trying to organize my fonts. I do have a lot of fonts. And I’m pretty sure I have a lot of duplicates. I have several folders for my fonts. The folders are named after the site from which the font was downloaded, so that explains the duplicates. Then under each folder, the fonts are grouped in different categories like Fancy (or Italic fonts), Curly (and Cute fonts. Fonts that I love.), Dings (purely images, no actual fonts), Dingfonts (fonts with images), Handwriting, Simple (regular fonts), Fat (Bold and Outlined fonts), Typewriter fonts, Stamped fonts, Stenciled fonts, and Script. OC ba? I just thought this will make it easier for me to look for a particular font even if I’m not using any font organization software. And the font goes to its respective folder when I download it, so it doesn’t take much effort.

Anyway, here are some font sites for you…

Chanced upon this while going through the scrap blogs I frequently visit. This was taken from this blog.

*~*~*~*
What Every Aspiring Photographer Should Know
- Style is a voice, not a prop or an action. If you can buy it, borrow it, download it, or steal it, it is not a style. Don’t look outward for your style; look inward.

- Know your stuff. Luck is a nice thing, but a terrifying thing to rely on. It’s like money; you only have it when you don’t need it.

- Never apologize for your own sense of beauty. Nobody can tell you what you should love. Do what you do brazenly and unapologetically. You cannot build your sense of aesthetics on a concensus.

- Say no. Say it often. It may be difficult, but you owe it to yourself and your clients. Turn down jobs that don’t fit you, say no to overbooking yourself. You are no good to anyone when you’re stressed and anxious.

- Learn to say “I’m a photographer” out loud with a straight face. If you can’t say it and believe it, you can’t expect anyone else to, either.

- You cannot specialize in everything.

- You don’t have to go into business just because people tell you you should! And you don’t have to be full time and making an executive income to be successful. If you decide you want to be in business, set your limits before you begin.

- Know your style before you hang out your shingle. If you don’t, your clients will dictate your style to you. That makes you nothing more than a picture taker. Changing your style later will force you to start all over again, and that’s tough.

- Accept critique, but don’t apply it blindly. Just because someone said it does not make it so. Critiques are opinions, nothing more. Consider the advice, consider the perspective of the advice giver, consider your style and what you want to convey in your work. Implement only what makes sense to implement. That doesn’t not make you ungrateful, it makes you independent.

- Leave room for yourself to grow and evolve. It may seem like a good idea to call your business “Precious Chubby Tootsies”….but what happens when you decide you love to photograph seniors? Or boudoir?

- Remember that if your work looks like everyone else’s, there’s no reason for a client to book you instead of someone else. Unless you’re cheaper. And nobody wants to be known as “the cheaper photographer”.

- Gimmicks and merchandise will come and go, but honest photography is never outdated.

- It’s easier to focus on buying that next piece of equipment than it is to accept that you should be able to create great work with what you’ve got. Buying stuff is a convenient and expensive distraction. You need a decent camera, a decent lens, and a light meter. Until you can use those tools consistently and masterfully, don’t spend another dime. Spend money on equipment ONLY when you’ve outgrown your current equipment and you’re being limited by it. There are no magic bullets.

- Learn that people photography is about people, not about photography. Great portraits are a side effect of a strong human connection.

- Never forget why you started taking pictures in the first place. Excellent technique is a great tool, but a terrible end product. The best thing your technique can do is not call attention to itself. Never let your technique upstage your subject.

- Never compare your journey with someone else’s. It’s a marathon with no finish line. Someone else may start out faster than you, may seem to progress more quickly than you, but every runner has his own pace. Your journey is your journey, not a competition. You will never “arrive”. No one ever does.

- Embrace frustration. It pushes you to learn and grow, broadens your horizons, and lights a fire under you when your work has gone cold. Nothing is more dangerous to an artist than complacence.

*~*~*~*

I do wish to become a photographer. But it’s still a long way to go for me. So many things to learn.

So I was organizing my scrap materials. I was using the other computer (which is actually a laptop, btw. yes, finally, no more sharing!), so I was organizing my stuff on a shared drive. When I went back to the pc, I noticed that the categorized items were pointing to those on the shared drive, not on the actual location. So when the sharing is removed, the categorized items will have nowhere to refer to. My only consolation is that I haven’t organized that much items. So I went back to using the pc. And then I accidentally deleted the categorized items. I was thinking that it will just remove the tagging, but I was wrong, it deleted the actual files. And they are nowhere to be found on the recycle bin. I wasn’t that worried since these are just previews of brushes I downloaded, so I thought I’ll just get the previews from their sites again. But I did download a free undelete program and I was able to recover most of the deleted files. Since I wasn’t able to recover the other previews, I visited the brush sites again. And this is where I got sidetracked with my organization. I got preoccupied with downloading brushes. I especially like the swirls, stains, ink spills, paint splatters and florals.

I haven’t use much of the brushes I downloaded so I’m not sure which has better brushes.

Estong’s first day at the Baby and Me program of BLSS. Currently, there are just two kids enrolled for this program and the other kid wasn’t able to attend last Friday’s class. So Estong got all the attention :D . Teacher Abbie taught the little boy, with daddy on the side, and later on teacher Mark joined in. We were told that this program was mainly for water familiarty, but the kid can be taught how to swim depending on his skills. Estong enjoyed the water so much. He knows how to hold his breath everytime they go under the water. He even closes his eyes. And he would come out of the water smiling. He can kick as well. He must have seen the kicking from the few older kids taking lessons as well. He can “swim” from daddy to his teachers and back.

Today was supposed to be Estong’s (and his daddy’s) first day for the Baby & Me program of Bert Lozada Swim School at the Alabang Country Club. Regular sked is MF 830am, but since last Monday was a holiday, we were informed that Estong can take his lessons today. But when we got there this morning we were told that classes will resume this Friday instead. Kainis. But they did allow us to swim so ok na rin. We thought he’d be afraid of the water, but we were wrong. He enjoyed it. No sign of fear at all. And a ton of pics were of course taken by me.

A scrap-related post, after a very long while…

No, I don’t have a layout to share. But I’m going to get there, when I’m done organizing my supplies. I used to use ACDSee before but then it gave up on me. I’m guessing the database got corrupted. And it happened after I finished organizing my supplies. Nakakapikon! So I switched to Picasa. And now, I’m back to ACDSee. Wish me luck that it won’t give up on me this time. I’m referring to this for my categories. Mine is not as comprehensive though.

Had lunch at Yellow Cab SSH after the Easter mass. Bought him spaghetti at McDonald’s but he preferred eating the pizza edges instead.
